Multiculturalism has enriched many aspects of all lives – the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the TV programmers we watch and the music we listen to. I strongly believe that having a diversity of backgrounds and experience is one of Britain's great strengths.

This Government is committed to extending opportunity to all and combating intolerance and discrimination. We need to make full of the talents of everyone in order to build a modern Britain. Initiatives like yours play an important role in helping us achieve this and in building better relations between different parts of our community. I wish you a successful and enjoyable event.

Dear Friends,

Britain today finds itself leading from the front, with its own distinguished brand of multiculturalism, which this Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards (EMMA) ceremony has managed to reflect.

The media industry has benefited from Britain’s diverse multicultural community, with its own ethic cultural mix within the fields of art, music, entertainment, fashion and the British news media.

I am glad that our creative success can be attributed to the cultural and professional fusion of this diverse ethnic community which has enriched our lives in this country.  The recognition bestowed by the EMMA patrons and judges upon Muhammad Ali, for a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ symbolises our global partnership with such a unique and outstanding individual.

I would like to thank the EMMA team for all the hard work needed to stage this awards ceremony. EMMA has truly captured the essence of this diverse multicultural community by highlighting the hidden talent that exists.

Finally, may I congratulate and thank all those whose talent and hard work has helped this country to be a pre-eminent creative force world-wide.

With best wishes,

Tony Blair

Prime Minister

Dear Mr Syed

The work of the creative industries is so important to the future prosperity of the UK and the dynamic and innovative media industry makes a vital contribution.

The EMMA awards are an important reminder to that industry and to the wider commercial world of the contribution that ethnic minority professionals and organisations make to its success.

I wish you a most enjoyable evening.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Blair

Prime Minister

Dear Friends,

The contribution of ethnic multicultural professionals has brought cultural creativity to Britain's media industry. An increasing awareness of cultural diversity has permeated not only the mass media but also the business world in the fields of marketing, advertising, public relations and graphic design.

The recognition of achievement and talent of ethnic multicultural professionals in the media industry has long been overdue and I commend the organizers of the Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards (EMMA) for their initiative in this area.

I hope you all have an enjoyable evening.

With best wishes,

Tony Blair

Prime Minister
